Map... what map? Whose projection?

According to Sankaran Krishna in 'The Future Of Knowledge & Culture' (Penguin, 2005), "The cartographer's claim to a final and settled depiction of reality through his map has to be regarded as a hegemonic and hubristic act as with all representational practices."

Phew! (It applies to the very book, too, described as a piece of cartography mapping out the--ahem---future).

Maybe we should have quantum maps, y'know---all probabilistically determined. As an art style (and a style is just that, a style). The Web allows such zaniness.

Like Schrodinger's egg. Is it there? Is it not? Must this information be etched in as either 1 or 0 ?

Maps may be fake, but they are useful. Here's a marketing thought: a good brand must always have something to say, and for that, it must map the prospect's mind.

An ambitious brand ought to craft an intelligent ad, buy the entire back page of, say, a newspaper of some intellectual standard --- and spring the message forth.

It alarms me to think that back-pages of lead-edge papers go wasted, esp when there is so much, so much, so much for thoughtful/creative brands to say.

The world remains shocklingly under-communicated.

Hi,

I'm sorry for being intrusive in to your blog. But I am Melissa and I am a mother of two that is just trying to get out of an incredible financial debt. See my hubby is away in Iraq trying to protect this great country that we live in, and I am at home with our two kids telling bill collectors please be patiant. When my husband returns from war we will beable to catch up on our payments. We have already had are 2001 Ford repossessed from the bank, and are now down to a 83 buick that is rusted from front to back and the heater don't work, and tire tax is due in November.

I'm not asking for your pitty because we got our ownselfs into this mess but we would love you and thank you in our prayers if you would just keep this link on your blog for others to view.

God Bless You.
